Is it a real terminal?
Yes. SwiftTerm under the hood: a real PTY with full VT emulation, true color, scrollback, xterm mouse, and multi-session tabs. The skin is just what it wears to work.
What does it cost?
Free to download with a full 14-day trial (up to 5 skin slots). After that, a $10 one-time license unlocks unlimited skins and community membership, forever. Never a subscription. No account is required to use the app.
Can I get a refund?
You can run everything before paying a cent, so try the trial first. But if you buy and it genuinely doesn’t work on your Mac, email support@terminalcandy.com and we’ll sort it out.
Which Macs does it run on?
macOS 14 (Sonoma) and up on Apple Silicon (M-series). An Intel build is in the works. There is no Windows or Linux version — Terminal Candy is an opinionated, fully native Mac app (Swift/AppKit, no Electron).
Does it phone home? What about my terminal content?
Your terminal content stays on your machine — session content is never read into the app, logged, or transmitted, and agent alerts observe only the “turn complete” signal.
Every network call the app makes goes to terminalcandy.com and nowhere else:
- License & trial checks — key/trial validation with a machine ID (used only for license enforcement)
- Update check — a GET for the latest version + release notes
- Community gallery — browsing, installing, and sharing skins, when you use it
- Feedback — only when you choose to send it
- Crash reports — if the app crashes, a minimal report (app version, OS, architecture, stack trace) is sent so bugs get fixed; it never includes terminal contents
There are no third-party SDKs, trackers, or analytics services. Skeptical? Run Little Snitch or LuLu alongside the app — the network behavior above is fully inspectable.
Is it open source?
No — Terminal Candy is a paid, closed-source app by a solo developer. The skin format is open, though: skins are plain folders with a PNG and a documented skin.json, and the community gallery is free to browse.
Do my old Terminajig license keys still work?
Yes. Terminal Candy was formerly called Terminajig; TJIG- keys remain valid forever. New keys are issued with the CNDY- prefix.
